Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of shoescanlab.com and participation in the Shoe Scan Lab research program, the Wear Survey, the Tester Program, and the text-messaging program (together, the “Services”), operated by Tubman Technologies LLC, doing business as Solestice Labs (“we,” “us”). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Services

Shoe Scan Lab is a research initiative that collects photographs of running-shoe outsoles and related information to study shoe wear. Participation is voluntary and free. We may modify, pause, or discontinue the Services at any time.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to submit personal information or enroll in the Tester Program.

3. Your submissions

  • You confirm that photographs and information you submit are your own and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • By submitting, you grant Tubman Technologies LLC a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, analyze, and create derivative works from your submissions for research purposes, including publishing findings in aggregate or anonymized form.
  • Do not submit photographs containing identifiable people or information you do not have the right to share.

4. Text-messaging program terms

  • Program description. Tester Program participants who opt in receive recurring informational SMS reminders to scan their shoes and occasional study updates from Solestice Labs / Shoe Scan Lab. Messages may be sent using an automatic telephone dialing system (autodialer).
  • Consent. Enrollment is by express opt-in only. Consent is not a condition of participating in the survey or of any purchase.
  • Frequency and rates. Message frequency varies (typically up to one message per day for active testers). Message and data rates may apply.
  • Opting out. Reply STOP to cancel at any time; you will receive a single confirmation message. Reply HELP for help, or contact general@shoescanlab.com or (617) 893-3372.
  • Carriers. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Services, including submitting false or misleading data, attempting to disrupt or reverse-engineer the Services, or using them for any unlawful purpose.

6. Intellectual property

The Services, including site content, branding, and the aggregated research dataset, are the property of Tubman Technologies LLC. These Terms grant you no rights in them except as needed to participate.

7. Disclaimers

The Services and any published findings are provided “as is,” for informational and research purposes only, without warranties of any kind. Findings about shoe wear are not medical, safety, or purchasing advice.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tubman Technologies LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed one hundred dollars (US $100).

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time; the effective date above reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance.
