This Privacy Policy describes how Tubman Technologies LLC, doing business as Solestice Labs (“Solestice Labs,” “we,” “us”), collects, uses, and protects information in connection with shoescanlab.com, the Shoe Scan Lab research program, the Wear Survey, the Tester Program, and our text-messaging program (together, the “Services”).
1. Information we collect
- Survey submissions. Photographs of shoe outsoles and the information you provide about them, such as shoe model, estimated mileage, and typical running surfaces.
- Contact information. If you choose to provide it — for example to join the Tester Program or receive findings — your name, email address, and mobile phone number.
- Technical information. Basic usage data collected when you visit our website, such as browser type and pages viewed.
2. How we use information
- To conduct running-shoe wear research and analyze submissions in aggregate.
- To operate the Tester Program, including sending opt-in scan reminders.
- To respond to questions and share study findings with participants who requested them.
- To maintain and improve the Services.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Text messaging (SMS) program
Participants in the Tester Program may opt in to receive recurring text-message reminders to scan their shoes, along with occasional study updates. Opting in is voluntary, and consent to receive text messages is not a condition of participating in the survey or purchasing anything.
- Message frequency varies (typically up to one reminder per day for active testers).
- Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text-message services necessary to deliver the messages.
4. How we share information
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the Services (for example, form hosting, data storage, and text-message delivery providers), and only as needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information if required by law. Research findings are published only in aggregate or anonymized form — never in a way that identifies an individual participant.
5. Data retention
Shoe photographs and associated survey data are retained for the duration of the research program, as longitudinal wear data is the core of the study. Contact information is retained while you participate in the Services and deleted upon request.
6. Your choices and rights
- You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP.
- You may request access to, or deletion of, your personal information by emailing general@shoescanlab.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
- You may participate in the Wear Survey without providing any contact information.
7. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information accordingly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date above reflects the latest revision, and material changes will be posted on this page.
